This term our topic is 'Pirates and Explorers!' 

The children will be learning about Sir Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh as significant people from British history and using their non-fiction reading skills to create a fact booklet. They will study their voyages and adventures geographically, plotting it onto a world map and learning names of continents, major cities and oceans. The children will be reading 'The Pirate Cruncher' by Jonny Doddle and 'The Night Pirates' by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright as focus texts to base our story writing on. We will also be describing the infamous Captain Blackbeard, making sure we include adjectives and key sentence features in our writing. 

We have made treasure maps to find Captain Blackbeards treasure using coffee, tea bags, water and cartidge paper. We took our pirate treasure to show Mrs Wilson and Mrs Hilton in the office. Here we are dressed as Pirates and Explorers on our dress up day!
