Spaghetti & Marshmallow Towers
What a fun afternoon!
Class 5 were set the STEM challenge of attempting to build the tallest spaghetti & marshmallow tower.
We discussed real life examples of tall buildings across the world and discussed the similarities between these to get some ideas for our own towers.
The children worked in teams to design and then bring their tower to life using only 2 materials: spaghetti and marshmallows.
Afterwards, we debriefed and discussed what went well, what didn't go so well and what skills were needed to take part in the challenge.
The children came up with these key skills:
- Patience
- Being cautious
- Listening to your team members
- Resilience (some towers didn't make it!)
- Planning ahead
- Concentration
- Sharing your ideas clearly, but being considerate of other people's ideas too
- Have fun!
They demonstrated such excellent team work skills along with everything they identified above - well done Class 5... we may have some engineers in the making!
