Y6 trip to Yorkshire Air Museum

Image of Y6 trip to Yorkshire Air Museum

We managed to dodge the downpours and spent a sunny day at the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington near York. After picking up our partner class in Bramham, we arrived at the museum to the sound of children gasping at the sight of the WW2 planes on display. We chose the air museum this year as it has lots of links to our current WW2 topic, and they even have a 'bouncing bomb' on display so we could see with our own eyes what we have been learning and writing about. It was huge!

We took part in workshops about the Dambusters and the role of aircraft in WW2, and after lunch we all became paratroopers and practised jumping out of a plane. After that we got the chance to sit in some real cockpits before setting off for home. All in all it was a fun, action-packed day which really reinforced our topic learning this term. We were very proud when staff at the museum mentioned how polite and well behaved our children had been - well done everybody!
