Jamaica Day

Image of Jamaica Day

Class One really enjoyed our Jamaica day today. We began the day with a personal message from a West Indian cricketer and later welcomed a special visitor who told us all about life in Jamaica and what it is like to go to school there.  We tasted some fruits grown in Jamaica - the paw paw was an acquired taste but almost everybody loved the mango! They discovered that plantains look like huge bananas before trying both cooked green and ripe plantains.  They also sampled some Jamaican hard dough bread and "bun and cheese".  However everybody's favourite was the Jamaican fresh lemonade - made from limes as lemons aren't grown on Jamaica!

We also learnt some patois, listened to reggae music and sang some Jamaican songs.
