I'll Be There

It's been another busy week in Year 6 and the children have been doing lots of different activities and learning. With assessments out of the way, we've made a start on our normal curriculum and in Maths have been looking at 'Place Value' and numbers up to ten million. We've linked this learning to our geography topic, discussing population numbers and the value of the global economy, looking at some of the huge numbers involved (80 trillion!) and how different countries contribute to this. We also used map reading skills to locate the counties in an Atlas.

In English we have started writing the information that will accompany our 'All About Me' collages on the wall. We have been using imperative verbs and prepositions to write wonderful sentences to instruct people where to look on our collages.

We held our School Council elections today. This is a very responsible role in school and particularly in Year 6 where the children will be expected to lead meetings and be called upon to carry out extra duties such as meeting visitors and attending events. All of the candidates made wonderful presentations and had some fantastic ideas for improving school life. The vote was very close  and all of the children should be very proud of reaching the final round. Congratulations to our new councillors Finley, Emelia, Josh and Zoe I'm sure they'll do a sterling job.

Finally as a bit of light relief in our music lesson, we listened to and analysed "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5. We discussed tempo, instrumentation and dynamics and even had a little boogie along to the music - you can see some of the funky moves in the slideshow below!
