A busy week!

What a busy first week we've had in Year 6 - the time has flown! In addition to our baseline assessments each morning (which have earned the children lots of house points for getting through them so well), we've been sorting out things like daily routines and expectations, homework planners, reading books, class jobs and today started the election process for the School Council.

We've been doing lots of learning in the afternoons and yesterday saw us start our geography topic 'Where do I fit in the world?', where we discussed the global economy and the trading of goods between countries.

Today we launched our new SITE project which will see the children produce a working kaleidoscope for their buddies in Reception. We started off by making our own optical illusions (see slideshow) and thought about what variables we will need to consider for our kaleidoscopes.

Following this we discussed our SMSC question 'What makes a good global citizen?' and looked at what it means to be British and the associated values of this (we decided eating Yorkshire Pudding and full English breakfast everyday wasn't necessarily a requirement!).

The children have settled in superbly and are definitely ready for new challenges in Year 6.
