Reception's Chinese New Year

Image of Reception's Chinese New Year

This week Class R have been finding out about Chinese New Year and celebrating the Year of the Dog.  The topic was brought to life by a special visitor who told us all about how it is celebrated by Chinese families around the world and brought in lots of special Chinese decorations.  We found out why the colour red is so important and discovered that some decorations are displayed upside down - so the luck falls out into the house!

The children have listened to the story of The Great Race and re-enacted it with masks, they performed a Chinese dragon dance, learnt to write Chinese numbers and enjoyed role play in our new Chinese restaurant.  The week was finished off with everyone using chopsticks and sampling some Chinese food.

It has been a great way to develop their understanding of the world and different cultures.
