Harlow Carr

We have had such a fantastic time at Harlow Carr today!

We started the day with a self guided tour around the gardens. We went on a sculpture hunt and found some ancient pillars along with The BFG! We also came across a bird hide where we had to be super super quiet so that we could see and hear lots of different types of birds without the birds seeing or hearing us.

After lunch we took part in a science workshop which links to our topic of life cycles. We even remembered our important words from last term (germinate and photosynthesis) and showed off everything that we already knew! Next, it was time to learn! We discussed seed dispersal and then created our own device which was a bit like a sycamore seed. We tested our sycamore seeds from the top of the stairs to see which ones would land without hitting any of our obstacles of water, pavement and other plants.

Finally, we went back outside and collected and learnt about lots of different seeds around the gardens before heading back to the greenhouse to plant some bulbs of our own. Luckily, we were able to plant one each and bring these back to school! The bulbs we planted take a long time to germinate but we will be patient and can't wait to see them growing next term!

Thank you to our parent helpers and Miss McHugh for coming along with us and most of all, thank you to Class 5 for a fantastic day out!
