Y5/6 Leeds City Hockey Finals (13/3/20) – 3rd Place!
13 March 2020
This Friday we took a team from both Bramham and Shadwell to the Leeds City Hockey Finals. Our team did really well, winning all but one of their games in the group. From there we qualified for the semi-finals. In that game we played some brilliant Hockey, but we were unfortunate to concede a goal in the last minute to lose 1-0. The children showed a lot of resilience to pick themselves up for the 3rd place play off. In that game we were able to win 4-0, against a team who had beaten us 5-2 in the group stage! Considering none of our players had ever played a competitive Hockey game before, they did incredibly well and improved so much throughout the tournament! What a great day!
Y5 Football vs Westbrook Lane (12/3/20) – Won 9-1
12 March 2020
In the next round of the cup our Y5 team hosted Westbrook Lane. The boys played some truly amazing football and despite drawing 1-1 during the first half the boys didn’t panic and kept playing well. 3 March 2020
This week we were able to take 6 teams (all of Y5 & 6!) to the Leeds Tag Rugby Regional Finals at Garforth Academy. It was a truly brilliant day, with all teams and children playing to their absolute best! Of the 16 teams there, 5 of the 8 quarter finalists were our teams, which meant 5 of our 6 teams had finished in the top 2 of their groups! From there, 3 of the 4 semi-finalists were Shadwell teams, which is an amazing achievement. One team even won the tournament and qualified for the Leeds City Finals in May! It was a very proud day to be a part of and it just showed what amazing sportspeople we have across both year groups! Well done to everyone involved!
Y5/6 Netball away at Weetwood (2/3/20) – Drew 5-5
2 March 2020
In their latest league match the team travelled to Weetwood; for a lot of players it was their first games for school as we had rotated the squad, but they didn’t let that stop them from putting into practise what they had been learning. We were able to take a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but despite playing well we found ourselves trailing 5-3 with a few minutes to go. The players showed a lot of resilience to grab a couple of late points and salvage a draw from the game!
Y5/6 Girls’ Football away at Holy Family (25/2/20) – Drew 4-4
25 February 2020
The girls played the return leg of their league fixtures against Holy Family on Tuesday. The opposition pitch always provides a great experience for our teams as it’s on astro turf within walls so the ball never goes out of play! The team adapted well and were able to score some great goals whilst also coping on the defensive side. It was a really end-to-end game and the draw was definitely a fair result in a match which could have gone either way.

Y5/6 Netball at home vs Highfield (4/2/20) – Won 6-3
4 February 2020
In our first game of the season the squad got off to a flying start against Highfield. For almost all of the players it was the first time they had actually played in a competitive Netball match. Not only did they have to put what they had learned into practise, but also cope with a frantic match against good opposition. Despite all of this, they team played very well, and were able to string some good passing moves together, and finish the chances they created to get a brilliant win to start the season!
Y5 Football at home vs Scholes (3/2/20) – Lost 9-0
3 February 2020
In their latest league outing some of the Y5 squad played a match vs Scholes on the school field. The boys’ 1st team played their latest league match at home vs Allerton this week. After getting off to a brilliant start, with two goals in the first five minutes, we were unable to add to the lead throughout the first half. Our creation of chances continued into the second half, although Allerton were able to score two goals within a manic 30 seconds to bring the game level. Even though we settled down from that point on we were unable to take the lead again. Still, the team showed good character to regain their focus and we will continue to push ahead in the league when we travel to Manor Wood next Thursday.
Y4 Football away at Manor Wood (21/1/20) – Won 2-1
21 January 2020

20 January 2020
It was the turn of the second half of Class 5 to participate in their football league match this week as they made the journey to St Augustine’s. Despite applying some pressure early on we were unable to find a breakthrough and the opposition took the lead even with some valiant defending and goalkeeping! We were able to get a goal back during the second half and were unlucky to not have scored more; pushing forward with multiple efforts and well worked chances. Still just like the other Y5 game, we are trying to get as much experience as possible and learn from it for future games.
Y5/6 Girls’ Football 1st team West Yorkshire Qualifiers (13/1/20)
13 January 2020
On Monday our girls’ football 1st team travelled to Football World for the West Yorkshire Qualifiers. The team did really well to adapt to a style of football they weren’t used to, with the ball never going off the pitch and bouncing off the walls. Although we were able to win some games, we also came up against some very strong opposition and with only one team being able to qualify we just missed out. Still, it was a great learning opportunity for the team!
Y5 Football match at home vs Grimes Dyke (13/1/20) – Lost 5-1
13 January 2020
The Y5 squad played their first match this week as they hosted Grimes Dyke in the league. With the whole Y5 class wanting to play we split them in half, with some of them playing today and the rest playing next week. In tricky conditions they were able to give their very best, bringing the score back to 1-1 from a losing position. Eventually Grimes Dyke were able to pull away and claim the victory, but it wasn’t because of lack of effort from our Y5s; everyone played their part in a great team performance!
Y5/6 Girls’ Football 1st team at home vs Farsley Farfield (3/12/19) – Drew 1-1
3 December 2019
In their final league game before Christmas the girls put in another good performance against a strong Farlsley Farfield team and were able to take the lead when Amaya’s great through ball set up Lily for the finish. Although Farlsey had their chances, it was only right in the last minute when they were able to equalise. A disappointing way to finish the game from a Shadwell perspective, but also a great learning experience for the girls and something which they will be able to grow from in the future.
Y5/6 Girls’ Football 1st team away at St Patrick’s (28/11/19) – Won 3-0
28 November 2019
Both Shadwell girls’ football teams had games this week, with the 1st team travelling to St Patrick’s for a league game. St Patrick’s, who were second in the Leeds League, were bound to be difficult opposition, and so it proved as it was difficult for the girls to break them down. The breakthrough was made when Rakhi scored two great goals to give us a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Despite leading, the girls had to defend well and Grace in goal made a number of brilliant saves! The second half was also close, with the third and final goal only being added towards the end, when Rakhi’s run and cross down the right was finished first-time by Amber! A great win for the girls, who keep their place at the top of the Leeds League, and they’ll need another good performance if they hope to beat Farsley Farfield in their final league game of the year next Tuesday.

The boys were able to match their opposition for the most part, though St Paul’s were able to grab a goal in the first half. 8 October 2019
After losing their first game of the season, the boys were keen to get this game underway with the intention of turning their good play in the previous match into a more positive result. This was clear from the beginning as Shadwell took an early lead through a goal by Tom W. We were soon able to add a second, and two more before halftime to give the team a 4-0 win at halftime. The second half was used to try out different players in different areas of the pitch and although Alwoodley were able to pull a couple of goals back, we also added a fifth to make the final score 5-2 to Shadwell. A great first win for the boys, and they will look to build on this when they host St Urban’s next week.

Y5/6 Boys’ Football 1st team match away at St Paul’s (23/9/19) – Lost 3-2
23 September 2019
On Monday it was the boys’ turn to get their season underway as they made the journey to St Paul’s. It took the boys a bit of time to settle down and get comfortable, as it was their first time playing together. At halftime St Paul’s were leading 2-0, and although Shadwell had chances, they were restricted to long range. We looked a lot more settled in the second half, and despite conceding a long range strike to fall further behind, the boys showed great character and potential as they began to pull back the deficit through Tom’s header from a corner. As well as scoring a second through Oliver’s shot from outside the box, the boys ran out of time to find the equaliser. Despite losing we showed a lot of heart to come back into the game, especially as it was our first match playing together. We tried to play good football and it’s only going to get better from here!
Y5/6 Girls' Football match at home vs Meanwood (19/9/19)
19 September 2019
The girls’ football 1st team got their season underway last night as they hosted Meanwood on the school field. With an entirely new squad of 10 the girls were eager to get the game started. It certainly showed when we were able to take the lead within the first minute; great work on the ball from Rakhi saw her find Holly who shot high into the net! Meanwood were able to grab an equaliser and it was unfortunate from a Shadwell point of when the goal came straight from a corner kick which found its way all the way through. The girls showed lots of resolve and teamwork to not let it get the better of them, and despite lots of Meanwood pressure in the second half, held their own to grab a great point to start the season!
