24 September 2018

It was the turn of the girls 1st team to begin their season this week as they travelled to Meanwood in the league. Having five players remaining from last year’s team gives the girls an excellent base, with quality added around them. Despite this, it will always take time to settle in, and the team went 1-0 down early on. Still, they never let that worry them and kept playing their own way; new captain Emily got the first goal of the season when she volleyed in Megan’s corner. Debutant Hetty gave Shadwell the lead at the end of the first half when her shot snuck in at the near post. At the break the score remained 2-1 Shadwell. The girls increased their lead early on in the 2nd half through goals from Megan and Sukhmann, before Megan got Shadwell’s fifth on a great breakaway towards the end after a great block from Isla in defence.
