8 October 2018
This week we took boys and girls teams, from both Bramham and Shadwell, to the Regional Cross Country tournament. We also took teams from Y4, 5 & 6, making a total of 60 children from the Federation, the most we’d ever taken! It was great to see all the children giving absolutely everything on a difficult running course; not only that, but our Y4 Girls, Y5 Girls, Y6 Boys and Y6 Girls also finished in the top 5 teams for their races and therefore qualified for the city finals! Also well done to Oliver in Y4 who finished 7th in his race and qualified as an individual runner for the Leeds City Finals!
Y5/6 Girls Football 2nd team at home vs IHOM 2nd team (4/10/18) – Drew 0-0
4 October 2018
The girls’ 2nd team had another fixture this week when they hosted Immaculate Heart. Even though they had lost their two previous fixtures, the performances had been very positive, and this game was no different, with very committed defending and some great attacking play the girls’ looked like a very solid unit. For spells they had the majority of the ball and used it brilliantly. They also kept their focus very well and last ditch tackling, especially towards the end kept us in it to gain a well-earned draw.
Y5/6 Boys Football 1st team away at Manston St James (3/10/18) – Won 6-3
3 October 2018
The boys overcame a tricky fixture this week when the beat Manston St James in the league. Away from home the boys were able to take a 3-0 lead with some great finishing and long range shots. Manston, made a great comeback, eventually levelling the game 3-3 just after half time. Despite the setbacks the boys showed great resilience to hold their nerve and regain the lead, eventually winning 6-3. More than the victory itself, what was more impressive was the team spirit and the way the boys stuck together!
Y5/6 Girls Football 1st team at home vs Meanwood (2/10/18) – Won 2-1
2 October 2018
The second match against Meanwood was quite soon after the first as the girls hosted them on the school field this week. In awkward conditions the team played exceptionally well and were able to take the lead through Megan’s goal. Even though Meanwood equalised in the second half the girls didn’t panic and were rewarded when Sukhmann’s strike towards the end of the game sealed the win!
Y5/6 Girls Football 2nd team at home vs Alwoodley (1/10/18) – Lost 3-0
1 October 2018
The girls’ 2nd team had their second game this week as they hosted Alwoodley. Despite losing, the game was more about the performance as well as the girls continuing to grow as a team. There was lots of energy and enthusiasm, and everything which needed to be improved upon will come purely through just playing more games.
Shadwell Girls Football 1st team at home vs Immaculate Heart (27/9/18) – Won 3-0
27 September 2018
The girls played their second game in a week as they hosted Immaculate Heart on the field. The opposition, who were a good team, posed lots of problems for the girls to deal with, but we did really well, especially Alina in goal who made a great save when the score was only 1-0! Shadwell’s first game from a run from Emily down the right, whose cross was controlled brilliantly by Megan, who finished back across the keeper. The score at halftime stayed 1-0 but was increased in the second half when Megan doubled her tally. Megan then went onto complete her hat-trick when she followed in Abi’s shot which had hit the post! Another great victory for the team in what’s been a great start to the season!
Shadwell Boys Football 1st team away vs Grimes Dyke (26/9/18) – Won 1-0
26 September 2018
The boys 1st team began their league campaign on Wednesday as they travelled to Grimes Dyke. With the majority of the team being new to school football, it was sure to be an interesting game as to how the boys would gel together. In what turned out to be an end-to-end, scrappy game, the two teams were eventually only separated by a great strike from Max A, curling his effort into the top corner in the first half. The team showed lots of great character for their first game as they battled through difficult opposition to get the win! Well done to all, including debut keeper Harry who made a couple of brilliant saves towards the end!
Shadwell Girls Football 1st team away vs Meanwood (24/9/18) – Won 5-1
24 September 2018
It was the turn of the girls 1st team to begin their season this week as they travelled to Meanwood in the league. Having five players remaining from last year’s team gives the girls an excellent base, with quality added around them. Despite this, it will always take time to settle in, and the team went 1-0 down early on. Still, they never let that worry them and kept playing their own way; new captain Emily got the first goal of the season when she volleyed in Megan’s corner. Debutant Hetty gave Shadwell the lead at the end of the first half when her shot snuck in at the near post. At the break the score remained 2-1 Shadwell. The girls increased their lead early on in the 2nd half through goals from Megan and Sukhmann, before Megan got Shadwell’s fifth on a great breakaway towards the end after a great block from Isla in defence. A great way to start the new season, showing lots of resilience after trailing at the beginning!
Shadwell Boys 2nd team at home vs Bramham (19/9/18) – Drew 2-2
19 September 2018
The boys 2nd team had their first game of the year on Wednesday when they too hosted Bramham Primary. The team got off to a great start when a brilliant run and finish from Jacob made the score 1-0 TO Shadwell. Going into the wind in the first half made it tricky to defend, and the equaliser came when a cleared corner was played back into the penalty area and an unlucky deflection saw it turned into the net. Shadwell retook the lead just before half time when a ball was played passed the Bramham keeper and Jacob tapped in his, and Shadwell’s second of the game. The team had to withstand a lot of Bramham pressure in the second half and the second equaliser came when a run through the middle ended with a neat Bramham finish. The score remained 2-2, a great draw in a first match with some excellent teamwork and individual skills on show.
Shadwell Girls Football 2nd team at home vs Bramham (18/9/18) – Lost 3-1
18 September 2018
The 2nd team had their first game of the year when they hosted Bramham Primary this Tuesday. The team played exceptionally well, especially as it was some children’s first game for school. In tricky, blustery conditions the girls kept battling away and despite going 1-0, were able to put some excellent pressure onto the Bramham goal. They were very unlucky to concede a second from their own corner, as a quick Bramham break away made it 2-0. Still, the team were able to pull a goal back in the second half and there were lots of positives to build upon for the games going forward!
