All Things Space

In Class 5, we are loving learning about space!

This week, we learnt about how the Earth rotates and orbits at the same time. We learnt that the Earth rotates on its axis, which creates day and night. It is night in your country when you are faced away from the Sun- this is why we have time zones too!

We learnt how the Moon orbits the Earth and then together, they orbit around the Sun. This takes almost 365 days, which is why our year is 365 days long.

We practiced orbiting and rotating in groups of three, taking turns to be the Sun, Moon and Earth; we made a moving model, which demonstrated how they moved and then were challenged to verbally explain to the class what was happening, using our model to demonstrate.

The children were set a learning log to keep a moon diary, which reflects what we have been learning in lessons. We are keeping a whole class moon diary too to keep everyone up-to-date incase anybody forgot to check the evening before.
