A huge thank you to one of our Governers who came in to Class 5 today to share her knowledge of Africa with us.

We learnt about apartheid and why all the borders between countries in Africa are straight lines. The children worked together to come up with a fantastic definition of democracy - we were very impressed!

We learnt about the climate in Africa and how it fluctuates between 40 degrees in the summer but below freezing in the winter. Linda explained that in many parts of Africa, they build their homes with tin roofs which is a heat conductor which lead us to discuss how this could cause lots of discomfort in the extreme temperatures.

The children most enjoyed learning about other children in Africa who Linda has worked alongside in their purpose built centre in South Africa. The children had lots of questions about school life and soon realised just how different it is to their life at Shadwell Primary.

We hope to set up some writing connections with a class in South Africa soon - watch this space!
