Class 3 SITE Project

This half term Class 3 have begun an exciting SITE project, they will learn all about forces and magnets in Science and use and apply this knowledge to designing and making a magnetic toy, drawing on DT and ICT skills along this journey.

Class 3 will be making their toys for children in Class R, so they must think about what is safe and suitable for a younger child.

In our first couple of SITE lessons we have explored different magnetic toys, thought carefully about how they work and where the magnets are. Then we have looked at how a toy car moves and thought carefully about the forces acting on the car when it is in motion. In order to understand Friction we conducted an investigation into how the same  toy car travels on different surfaces.

The children used their accurate meaasuring skills to record the results and we talked about how to ensure it was a fair test, some great ideas were given and some of the children were concerned that we could not switch off the wind outside and that may help to move the car further, perhaps explaining why they travelled well on the rough playground surface.

Lots of great ideas and discussions were had, well done Class 3!
