Dear Parents and Carers,

With only five weeks in this half-term, it has been a short, but busy one. Each half-term I look forward to sharing with you some of the highlights and news about all the exciting things happening in school and any plans for the coming term.

Visitors in School

The musical group ‘Back Chat Brass’ visited for a day last month and performed some fantastic workshops of brass music for all of the classes. Inspiring children to learn about diverse types of music is an area we are committed to as a school, so this was a wonderful opportunity for all children to hear a live performance of brass music and learn about different brass instruments.

A representative of the community organisation ‘Solar for Schools’ (who manage our solar panels) visited and talked to the children about the polar explorer Robert Swan. Robert, who hails from Durham, walked unassisted to both the north and south poles and is committed to the protection of the Antarctic environment. The children heard the story of his expeditions and why renewable energy plays a key part in the protection of the polar environment.

Outdoor Learning Plans

We are truly fortunate to have so much outdoor space in our school grounds. Over the past year we have been working hard on plans, and acquiring funding and support, to reinvigorate our existing outdoor areas including the wildlife/pond area and allotments. We have been working with FOSS and a number of external organisations to help bring our plans to life. We are in the final stages of bringing everything together, so I hope to be able to share more news with you very soon. As well as helping children to understand and value the environment, learning outdoors also has been shown to benefit both physical and mental health.

Morning Drop Off

Thank you for bringing children to school on time which ensures they have a smooth start to the day. If a relative/family friend is dropping your child off for you, please could you remind them that after 9am they will need to bring your child to the main office entrance as the children’s doors will be closed then.

Parent Consultations

Just a reminder that you can still book an appointment for parent consultations on 19th March (or 19th & 20th March for year 6). There are a limited number of spaces still available if you have not yet booked.

Number Day Thank You

The children had a wonderful time on Friday taking part in a range of number-based activities for NSPCC Number Day. Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the NSPCC resulting in a total for our school of £320 so far.

It just remains for me and the whole staff team to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable half-term break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 19th February.

Best Wishes

Mrs Ellis
