Y5/6 Boys Football at home vs Oakwood – Won 3-2

16 May 2017

We played Oakwood Primary in the first champion’s knockout round, they also won their league and we managed to beat them 3-2! The game got off to an unlucky start when an Oakwood shot took a deflection against Sam and sent Alex the wrong way. We managed to equalise before half time when an Oli D cutback found Alex on the edge of the 6 yard box, who shot into an empty net.

The second half got off to a rocky start, when Oakwood took the lead once again. It was, however, Shadwell who had the majority of the play, but once we’d missed a penalty and had a shot saved on the line, the boys could be forgiven for thinking that this wasn’t their day. Nevertheless we persisted with the cause and when Alfie did some great work down the right his ball across the box was accidently hit into his own net by an Oakwood defender. With a few minutes to go a bit of Oli D magic from the left saw his shot loop over the keeper’s head and into the far corner!

It was a really physical match and we had lots of excuses for losing, but we never gave up and now we’re in the top 8 teams in the whole of Leeds!
