Y5/6 Girls Football vs St Augustine’s Primary School (29/3/17) Lost 3-2

29 March 2017

As the end of the season drew near, the girls’ football team went to St Augustine’s. The game had to be postponed the week before due to the poor weather. We got off to a great start when some excellent pressure from Daisy resulted in a pass through to Emily, who’s great low shot was drilled into the bottom left of the goal. We were also defending really well, with our defensive trio of Connie, Emma and Pippa playing out of their skin, as usual.

The St Augustine’s equaliser came from a corner, when it deflected off their player’s knee. The bad fortune for Shadwell continued when St Augustine’s scored with literally the last kick of the first half. We had done well in the game so far; Gracie made multiple world class saves in goal, notably tipping a shot onto the post and another, double reaction save where she not only saved the first shot but also the rebound!

The girls fought their way back in the second half with some pressure of their own, and when Daisy worked herself into some space in the penalty area, her shot found its way inside the far post, with defenders and ‘keeper scrambling to keep it out. The team defended valiantly for the rest of the game, but just couldn’t get to a St Augustine’s shot, with 30 seconds to go, to hang onto the draw.

The girls were understandably disappointed at the defeat, having again given it their all, but are mature enough to act graceful. We played so well and should be really proud of our performance.
