Space

Class One have been working really hard on their topic this half term.  They have learned all about Neil Armstrong, Apollo 11 and the first moon landing.  The children have explored lots of non-fiction texts about the subject and have all now completed their own fact pages.  They loved the fact that Neil Armstrong could fly before he could drive and that the astronauts used a pen to fix their space capsule.  When the children have completed their work, they are able to choose within the areas of provision in the classroom.  Mrs Ibbetson and I have been thrilled to see them independently writing letters to Tim Peake, designing their own space rockets, completing the space log and going on their own journeys into space via our class rocket role play area.  They have been thoroughly engaged with the topic.

We have also been enjoying a variety of stories with a space theme, such as Space Tortoise by Ross Montgomery, The Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram and especially The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield, which we found particularly inspiring.  The children were fascinated to learn that facing your fears and following your dreams can lead to such amazing things.  We definitely now have a class of budding astronauts!
